Estonia and Oman

The Sultanate of Oman recognized the Republic of Estonia on 22 September 1991. Diplomatic relations were established on 23 September 1992.

In January 2012, H.E. Mr. Lauri Bambus, Estonian first Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman presented the credential letter to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said.

In August 2012, H.E. Mr. Abdul Aziz Bin Abdullah Bin Zahir Al-Hinai, first Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Republic of Estonia presented the credential letter to Mr. Toomas Hendrik Ilves, President of the Republic.

Bilateral agreements

·         Memorandum of Understanding between The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communication of the Republic of Estonia and The Information Technology Authority of the Sultanate of Oman in the field of information and communication technology.

·         Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman on Political Consultations.

Estonian-GCC Parliamentary Group

In order to strengthen relations between Estonia and Gulf Cooperation Countries (Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates), an 8-member parliamentary body was formed on 4 May 2015. Hannes Hanso was elected as Chairperson of the Group.

Members of the Parliamentary Group: Mr. Eerik-Niiles Kross (Deputy Chair, Acting Chairman of the Group after Mr H. Hanso was appointed as the Minister of Defence), Jüri Jaanson, Jaanus Marrandi, Mart Nutt, Mailis Reps, Anne Sulling and Aivar Sõerd are also members of the body.


Economic Relations

Estonia and Oman have good opportunities to develop the bilateral cooperation in economic relations.

The main articles of export were machinery and mechanical appliances (boards, panels, consoles; electrical apparatus for switching or protecting electrical circuits) (65%), peat (17,2%) and transportation means (tractors, motor vehicles for cargo) (8,1%).

The main article of import has been aluminium wire.
